Nine Actionable Techniques for Effective Content

We all write content keeping certain goals in mind. To meet these goals, investing required time and effort and creating niche content helps. When you choose the easy way and write poor content, it will ultimately take you nowhere. Authentic and original content helps your site get more exposure. Whether your content is for business purpose or a personal blog, it’s important to write it right. Let’s look at some actionable tips that can help you get your content right.

Original Content is Timeless

By all means, we can learn from any available source. But copy pasting it as it is an offense to the original writer and this will not take us anywhere. Taking this thought a little further, we should also consider sharing original ideas because original comes from originality. Thinking and sharing your own opinion can help change existing trends.  Hence, speak your heart out in the guise of original and constructive content.

From business point of view, Google has made it clear that that they will penalize sites with duplicate content, which means they are looking for association with high quality sites that contain original content. It’s evident that original and niche content has a long life with Google which in turn will definitely reap benefits for your business. In order to boost SEO rankings, content marketers have to gain traffic and/or leads. This can be done by having plagiarism-free content on your blog or website.

Useful and Actionable Content is Valuable

Applying learning in real life is essential. After reading your content, do your readers find it useful enough to apply it in real life? It’s simple. If you don’t have anything useful to say, don’t say it at all! Speaking your heart out doesn’t mean you add to the already burgeoning pool of not-so-useful content. Content that helps readers take immediate actions to find solutions to their problems is the need of the day. Probably, your readers know where the gap is—what’s needed is to tell them how to fill the gap. Hence, firstly identifying your audience and their problems and accordingly creating a pathway to their solutions is a great way of making your content actionable. Your content should definitely spark some workable ideas in the minds of the readers.

Headlines Rule Content World

“On the average, five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy. When you have written your headline, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar” – David Ogilvy

Unfortunately, a great article can fail due to poor headline because majority people use headlines to decide whether or not to read your article. Well-written titles are important on many—to grab attention, to attract RSS readers’ and social bookmarking sites, to hoard loyal readers, for search engine optimization.

Readers Seek Answers

When stuck in work, finding answers on Google is indeed the best and fastest solution. And that is exactly what readers look for when reading your content.  A headline catches your readers’ attention and they want to know more. Probably, they already have some queries and in quest of right answers they have landed up on your page. Now after reading all that you have written, if they don’t find actionable solutions, it’s likely possible those readers won’t come back to your page. And that is a big loss. Let’s also understand that readers want to find answers really fast. So its important to make content easy to read and understand so that people can quickly scan through all the essential points.

 Thought-Provoking Content Lasts Longer

After the catchy headline, the introductory paragraph helps your reader decide whether to be with you in your journey. If reader finds the introduction engaging then they will likely read every word of your content with a hope they get to learn something new. It is essential to leave readers with questions and not spoon-feed everything so that they get an opportunity to reflect upon the knowledge you provided. Also consider structuring your content in a story form because in our childhood most of us loved listening to grandma stories. And some of these stories must be fresh in our minds till date. So why not try the same with your content? By the end of it do not forget to have a strong and thought provoking message in your content that compels the reader to think. Only then will your message linger like a piece of music in their minds.

Authenticity MattersGet Real

Referring to various sources for information is accepted, but it is our duty to cross-check whether the information is accurate. Here are few ways of making your content accurate –

  • Define an ideal set of customers.
  • Determine precisely ‘need to know’ information.
  • Ensure the source is trusted and authoritative.
  • Deliver that information in a pertinent and compelling way.
  • Stimulate a level of conviction that makes it easy for them to buy your thought.

A Picture is worth a Thousand Words

We already know that different people learn differently. Some learn visually (visual learners), some learn by listening (auditory learners) and other do by using hands-on approach (kinaesthetic learners). But what’s important to know is that almost everyone learns better with visual aids. So adding pictures to support whatever we write helps communicate the message faster.

Disclaimer: Add images that help add value.

KISS techniqueKeep it Short and Sweet

Time is money. So readers prefer extracting as much as possible from your content in least possible time.  To-the-point information consumes lesser time of both the parties – reader and writer. So make sure to eliminate rhetorical fluff. This elimination actually takes more of writer’s time—but it’s worth it!

Your article should be filled with accurate information, so do not focus on word count. For more information on blog’s word count check out HubSpot blog post.

 Update and be Up-to-date

Out of the blue you decide to write! And thoughts flow on paper. You post your brilliant article about all the new things you learnt in order to enlighten your readers. And then what? You are back to your routine work and forget about writing. It is essential to keep your eyes and ears open and be committed to writing. Only then can you enlighten the world about all the new and bright things you learn.

6 Reasons to Celebrate Menstruation

Women! If you HAVE to HAVE it, why not CELEBRATE it?

What you feel is a curse is really a priceless boon!

While doing justice to her varied roles and proving worth of equality, a woman every month is attacked by a pseudo-phantom for 5-7 days! They commonly name it menses/period/menstruation.

The moment this phantom attacks, the woman undergoes pitiful changes that she cannot hide nor express. I’ll be honest. The pain is terrible and it does affect! However, come to think of it, the stress usually persists because she treats menstruation as her foe.

The day she starts appreciating the benefits of menstruation, all her stress will vanish off…

Trina Read, author of Till Sex Do Us Part: Make Your Married Sex Irresistible says, “I’d always considered my period a nuisance. When I was pregnant and later breastfeeding, it was a relief not to get it. But after I had Andrew, I began missing it! It felt like a part of me went missing…and I was shocked by how happy I was to get my period back.”

Happy to get period back! Really???

Most women would either burst out laughing or make unconvinced faces reading this.

But, it’s true! Keep reading to know why and how…

The Very First Period!

Known as menarche! It heralds the power of the reproductive cycle, empowering a young woman with the “option” to someday carry a child. Many cultures celebrate this event as a sacred phase. The period is the shedding off of the uterine coating, the starting point of the cycle of hormones that is accountable for fertility.

Women live longer than men – this is how!

Who wouldn’t like to have a magic for slowing down the aging process. According to Dr. Thomas Perls, a leading U.S. longevity expert, women age slower than men because menses causes loss of iron. Losing iron through blood can elongate lifespan.

Health Indicator and a Natural Cleanser

Menstrual blood provides priceless information about the well-being of the woman depending on its colour, odour and texture. In case a woman develops illness, menstrual blood offers early signs in order to prevent the same. Menstruation was customarily believed to be the body’s natural cleanser going back to the time of Hippocrates, according to David P. Barash in the book, “How Women Got Their Curves and Other Just-So Stories.” Unfortunately, many societies believe menstruation is a signal of uncleanliness or illness in women, some believe the purpose is to remove impurities in the body, and according to MacArthur Foundation “genius” award winner Margie Profet, is the female reproductive system’s way of defending against pathogens transported by sperm.

Enhanced libido, a better life in the bedroom

While a woman menstruates, increased level of testosterone enhances libido, which makes sex better for some women. One can consider this a priceless benefit of getting periods J Dr Booth says that  there is no reason not to have sex while on your period, but, contrary to popular belief, pregnancy can happen if there is no contraception, because sperm can live for several days and fertilize the developing egg.”

If your periods are regular periods, you would better know your hormones!

As long as you’re not pregnant, nursing or in menopause, regular periods are the best sign of hormone balance. Mother Nature has made our body in a certain way and would love if it works in a certain way. A little bit of disturbance causes trouble. “While most women associate premenstrual syndrome or PMS with their hormones, it’s actually the absence of hormones during this period (a few days before menstruation) that leaves them feeling less than ideal,” says Dr Booth.

The Rejuvenation Period!

The menstruation is a time to get in contact with your inner spiritual self because a new cycle of hormones begins again. It is the ideal period to take care of nutrition, meditation, exercise and even skin.

Despite the fear of pain, embarrassment and negativity, most young women eagerly look forward to the start of their periods. Today’s women know that her flow of blood heralds the unbelievable potential that is uniquely feminine; a wonderful gift that should be celebrated.

So, fully understand the purpose and the promise that the female cycle brings. Next time when you get your periods, think twice before cursing the phase J

Be proud! You are a WOMAN!

Top 5 Ways to Prevent Premenstrual Syndrome aka (PMS)!

ATTENTION!!!

For Men: Think of this – your mom’s unexpected frantic behavior, your girlfriend’s emotional drama, your sister’s senseless arguments, your wife’s never-ending suspicion, your female boss’ unreasonable fury! And all of this for no apparent reason! Isn’t it time to find an explanation?

For Women: Aren’t you tired of the monthly irksome phase in your life wherein life doesn’t seem to be in control? I am sure the displeasure is due to two reasons:

a)      People don’t understand you

b)      You don’t understand yourself

Most of us are aware of the concept of Premenstrual Syndrome. But, who cares?

Neither the victim who fights, nor the one witnessing her emotional fight!

Doesn’t matter whether you are a man or a woman, learn and act and react!

PMS Vicious Cycle – The Strange Science!

Premenstrual Syndrome – they say it is psychological. So be it!  Shouldn’t that be taken care of?

Most of we women live with these symptoms like going up a dress size or shedding tears unexpectedly for hardly any reason. And most of the men out there keep wondering what’s going on around them!

It is alright till life isn’t endangered. Unfortunately, many women tend to become violent and attempt suicide as well.

Is there a cure?

Well, Nicholas Panay, consultant gynecologist and chairman of The National Association for Premenstrual Syndrome (NAPS), says: “One woman’s PMS is not another’s.”

PMS cannot be completely prevented. But, one cannot give up the hope of a cheerful life!

With careful observations, here are 5 suggested ways to prevent the dreadful effects of PMS:

EDUCATION & AWARENESS:  Google! Get started with thorough reading on PMSing. I started writing this blog when I decided to get rid of this monthly dreadful trauma. Trust me, the more I read, the better I was able to emotionally and physically overcome the trauma. Learn the science – progesterone and estrogen! It’s all the game of hormonal imbalance. Now-a-days, humans tend to panic even if it is a normal headache caused due to changed weather. Many times, the symptoms of thyroid are mistaken as PMS. Unawareness and wrong information will only add to the agony. Observe yourself logically and see the difference.

NUTRITION: Say good-bye to caffeine, salt and refined sugar. It may sound cliched but drink plenty of water, consume fresh fruits and vegetables. Nutritional supplements like vitamin B6, vitamin E, calcium, and magnesium can also help relieve. Calcium supplements help improve negative moods by affecting the hormone-producing endocrine system.

MEDICATION: (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil), and naproxen (Aleve) may help relieve symptoms such as headache, backache, cramps, and breast tenderness. Certain antidepressants may be useful to treat severe PMS.

EXERCISE & RELAXATION TECHNIQUES: Exercising really helps. Regular exercising increases the level of endorphin in the brain. See to it that you exercise for 20-40 minutes, 3-4 times a week. Indulge in relaxation techniques like yoga, massages and meditation. Call up an old friend, listen to soothing music, watch a funny movie, recall your happy moments or take a warm bubble bath to reduce your irritability.

BE HONEST: Learn to identify the right symptoms. Don’t fake! Now that most men and women are aware of PMSing, women at times tend to purposely overreact and make an issue of simple things. Be true to your heart. Do not invite PMS in your life as monthly guest. Try to kill it within you. After all, it’s about making your life cheerful.

Michelle Harrison, after studying the premenstrual women, said that “Women who are premenstrual often have a need for time alone, time to themselves, and yet few women actually have that time in their lives.”

Take charge! Help every woman in your life by gifting her this precious time of hers. Let her explore, rejuvenate, re-evaluate and rejoice the joy hidden within.

Who knows, a little changed perspective may prove PMS a boon rather than a curse.
